Mama Chris' Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups | Self-rising flour |
½ tsp | Baking soda |
½ cup | Shortening (Crisco) |
¾ - 1 cup | Buttermilk |
Directions:
- Heat oven to 450˚F
- In medium bowl, stir flour and baking soda together
- Cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture looks like fine crumbs
- Stir in buttermilk until dough rounds up into a ball (leave some flour on sides of bowl – add more buttermilk as needed)
- Break off pieces and roll into balls. If making cheese biscuits, flatten, add cheese, pinch together and roll again.
- Place on ungreased or floured cookie sheet and bake 10-12 minutes (until brown on top)
Tip: You can also make these with regular milk for regular biscuits, but don't put in baking soda.
